Cal’s Eval – Method
Cal’s Evals provide a comparison of an individual catamaran or trimaran with others whose length waterlines (lwl) fall in the same one-foot bracket. For example, the Alibi 47, at 46.59 feet is compared with 21 other cruising catamarans with waterline lengths of 46 to just over 47 feet. An average of each characteristic is calculated for the 22 boats and trend line values from the full 1100 plus database spreadsheet is provided. Comments on boat details provided in website or magazine descriptions of the boat are also presented, giving insight on why the boat scores where it does on various factors (base speed, stability speed, etc.).
